A surprise on Radio 5 this morning, as the icon of left wing politics, Tony Benn announced he was backing Ed Milliband. Mr Benn said he favoured his comrade John McDonnell, but he believed it was Ed Milliband who is right to lead Labour.
Benn's endorsement is a big boost for Ed Miliband's campaign. He has unrivalled influence on the left of the party and there is no Labour figure of whom activists speak with greater fondness.
