A Truely Historic Election

At the end of today, the simple truth is Gordon Brown remains Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, at this moment he has the constitutional and moral right to remain in that job until 26th May.

Yes, Labour have lost this election, but the Conservatives have not won! To win a General Election in the United Kingdom, you have to have a majority in the House of Commons, the Conservatives do not have that.
But politically, this was the Conservatives election to win, this time last year they had a 20point lead in the polls. As Gordon Brown's briefing to the press on his way to London yesterday, he said, "they thought it was going to be a procession into Downing Street and I was going to be part of the furniture in this sweep". That is true, the Tories thought they would just inherit power, but the voters have decided not to elect a conservative government, and that is also a simple truth.
